Kia Soul Maintenance Schedule
This guide lists the service intervals Kia gives for the Soul with the 2.0 MPI engine and Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT), from the scheduled maintenance chapter of the 2025 Soul owner's manual on Kia's owner's manual site, read November 3, 2026. Intervals are by miles or months, whichever comes first. Other model years can differ, so check the manual for your vehicle.

What is the Kia Soul maintenance schedule?
The 2025 Soul owner's manual lists, for the 2.0 MPI engine, replacing the engine oil and filter every 8,000 miles (13,000 km) or 12 months and rotating the tires on the same interval, replacing the climate control air filter every 16,000 miles or 24 months, the engine air cleaner filter every 24,000 miles or 36 months, the brake fluid every 48,000 miles or 48 months and the spark plugs every 96,000 miles. Severe use, including very cold weather and areas that use road salt, shortens the oil interval to 5,000 miles or 6 months.

Kia says engine oil is consumed during driving, so check the oil level regularly, and never add additives to the engine oil. If the recommended engine oil specification is not used, the manual says to follow the severe schedule. For oil grade and capacity, see our Soul oil type and capacity guide.

Kia says to use only deionized or soft water when adding coolant and never to mix hard water into the factory coolant. Our service team can handle cabin air filters, coolant service and oil changes.

Kia says the drive belt inspection covers the alternator, water pump and air conditioner belt, the belt tensioner, idler and alternator pulley. The fuel filter is normally maintenance free, but Kia says to replace it immediately if there is fuel flow restriction, surging, loss of power or hard starting, and the transmission fluid should be changed as a precaution if the vehicle has been submerged in water or in a flooded area.

The 2025 Soul manual says to follow its severe usage schedule if any of these conditions apply:

Severe conditions in the manual: repeatedly driving short distances of less than 5 miles (8 km) in normal temperatures, or less than 10 miles (16 km) in freezing temperatures; extensive engine idling or low-speed driving for long distances; driving on rough, dusty, muddy, unpaved, graveled or salt-spread roads; driving in areas that use salt or other corrosive materials, or in very cold weather; driving in heavy dust; driving in heavy traffic; repeated driving on uphill, downhill or mountain roads; towing or camping, or driving with a load on the roof; use as a patrol car, taxi or other commercial vehicle; frequent high-speed driving or rapid acceleration and deceleration; frequent stop-and-go driving. Kia also recommends the severe schedule after 10 years or 100,000 miles (150,000 km).

When should I replace the Soul cabin air filter?
The 2025 Soul manual calls it the climate control air filter. On the normal schedule it is inspected at 8,000 miles (12 months) and replaced every 16,000 miles (24 months), and Kia says to replace it more frequently on rough or dusty roads and on mountain roads.
When does the Soul need new spark plugs?
The 2025 Soul manual lists replacing the spark plugs on the 2.0 MPI engine every 96,000 miles (156,000 km) on the normal schedule, and more frequently under severe conditions such as short trips, long idling, heavy traffic or towing.
Does the Soul IVT fluid need to be changed?
On the normal schedule the 2025 Soul manual lists no service required for the Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT) fluid. Under severe usage conditions it lists replacing it every 56,000 miles (91,000 km), and Kia says the fluids should be changed as a precaution if the vehicle has been submerged in water.
