How often does a Kia need a new cabin air filter?
In the 2027 Kia owner's manual we used (NQ5a, 2.5L gas), the climate control air filter is inspected every 8,000 miles (13,000 km) or 12 months and replaced every 16,000 miles (26,000 km) or 24 months, whichever comes first. Replace it more often on rough, dusty or unpaved roads, in heavy dust, or on repeated mountain driving. Michigan City Kia's service team can check and replace it.
What the cabin air filter does
The 2027 Kia manual says the climate control air filter removes dust and other pollutants that enter the vehicle from the outside. It is a different part from the engine air cleaner filter, which has its own line in the maintenance schedule.
Signs the filter needs attention
According to the manual, as dust and pollutants build up in the filter over time, the airflow from the air vents may decrease, and moisture can collect on the inside of the windshield even with the fresh air intake mode selected. At that point, replace the filter.
Not replacing it on a regular basis can lead to decreased airflow, diminished heating and cooling performance and unpleasant odors. If the airflow from the vents suddenly decreases, the manual says to have the vehicle checked by an authorized Kia dealer.

When to change it sooner
For the climate control air filter, the severe usage schedule in this manual lists three driving conditions:

How the cabin air filter is replaced
The 2027 Kia manual lists these steps, and says to be careful to avoid damaging other components:
- Open the glove box and remove the stopper.
- With the glove box open, pull the support strap.
- Remove the climate control air filter cover by pulling out both sides of the cover.
- Replace the climate control air filter.
- Assemble in reverse order.
