Kia EV6 Charging Guide: Charge Times, Ports and Tips

How long an EV6 takes to charge depends on the charger, the battery and the weather. This guide uses the 2026 EV6 owner's manual (code CV1A on ownersmanual.kia.com, the newest EV6 manual listed there) and the kia.com EV6 page, both read October 28, 2026, to cover charge times by charger type, the charging port and CCS1 adapter, scheduled charging, cold-weather features and Kia's battery care advice. Other model years can differ, so the manual for your vehicle is the final word.

How long does it take to charge a Kia EV6?

On a 350 kW DC charger, the 2026 EV6 owner's manual says about 20 minutes from 10% to 80% at room temperature, for both the standard and extended battery. On a 250 kW charger (V3 Superchargers) it lists about 24 minutes for the standard battery and about 30 minutes for the extended battery. AC charging from 10% to 100% takes about 5 hours 40 minutes (standard) or 7 hours 20 minutes (extended). Actual times vary with battery condition, the charger and the outside temperature.

From the Charging time information topic of the 2026 EV6 web manual (CV1A) on ownersmanual.kia.com, read October 28, 2026. All times are at room temperature. The manual notes that both DC rows can also charge to 100%.

Kia says charging time can vary with the condition and durability of the high voltage battery, the charger specifications and the ambient temperature, and that you should allow up to 3 extra minutes when you charge while the vehicle checks and diagnoses the battery. The charging port and CCS1 adapter

The kia.com EV6 page, read October 28, 2026, says the 2026 EV6 has a standard NACS charging port on the driver's side rear corner. The 2026 manual says the charge indicator lamp is inside the charging door, which you push to open; it can be closed with the charging door open/close button or by hand, and there is also a charging door button on the instrument panel.

For chargers with a CCS1 connector, the manual describes using a CCS1 adapter and says approved CCS1 adapters can be purchased from an authorized Kia dealer. Its steps:

  1. Check the adapter for damage before use.
  2. Press the latch button on the CCS1 charging connector and insert it into the adapter.
  3. Insert the CCS1 adapter into the vehicle, then check the connection status between the charger and the vehicle at the charging station, and start charging.
  4. When charging is complete, stop charging from the infotainment screen, the mobile app or the station display, unlock the charging inlet, and disconnect the adapter from the vehicle. Do not disconnect the charging connector from the adapter while the adapter is still connected to the vehicle.
  5. Store the adapter in its case or pouch, secured in the vehicle, in a cool, dry place.

Kia also says to always connect the adapter to the charging connector before connecting it to the vehicle, to disconnect in the reverse order, and not to disconnect the adapter or the charging connector while the vehicle is charging.

Charging at home: AC and portable charging

The manual describes AC charging as plugging into an AC charger installed at your home or at a public charging station. To connect an AC charger, it lists these steps:

  1. Press the brake pedal and apply the parking brake.
  2. Turn all switches off, shift to P (Park) and turn the vehicle off.
  3. Open the charging door and make sure there is no dust on the charging connector and charging inlet.
  4. Hold the charging connector handle and push the connector all the way into the charging inlet. If it droops or vibrates, push it all the way in.
  5. Check that the charging indicator light in the instrument cluster is on. The cluster shows the estimated charging time for about 1 minute after charging begins.

To unplug, hold the connector handle, press its unlock button and pull it out, then close the charging door completely. Portable charging uses household current through a portable charging cable, which Kia says is sold separately; the manual's Type B portable cable runs on 120 V or 240 V, at up to 12 A or up to 30 A with a different input cord set, and has a 20 ft. (6.1 m) cable. Kia says not to use an extension cord with the L1 trickle charger, as this may overheat or cause damage.

DC fast charging

DC charging lets you charge at high speed at public charging stations. The manual says to follow the instructions for each DC charger type, and to check that there is no dust or foreign material on the connector and inlet before you plug in. As with AC charging, check that the charging indicator light in the cluster comes on.

Kia notes that some DC chargers display an error message if you try to charge a vehicle that is already fully charged, and that you may hear the air conditioner compressor and cooling fan while the system cools the high voltage battery during charging. While charging, the gear cannot be shifted out of P (Park).

Charging settings and controls

Charging limit

You can set a target battery charge level for AC or DC charging. The battery does not charge if the target is lower than its current charge level.

Charging current

You can adjust the charging current for an AC charger. If charging does not start or stops partway, the manual says to select another current and try again.

Scheduled charging

Set it in the infotainment system or the Kia Access app. It works only with an AC charger or the portable charger. Press and hold the charging button on the charging door for 2 seconds to charge right away.

Stopping a charge

Unlock the doors with the door handle sensor or the smart key, then within 15 seconds press and hold the charging button on the charging door for 2 seconds.

Charge indicator

The lamp inside the charging door blinks to show the charge level in four steps (0-24%, 25-49%, 50-74%, 75-100%) and blinks red when charging fails.

Emergency unlock

If the charging cable will not detach because of battery discharge or a wiring failure, the manual says to open the hood and pull the emergency cable slightly to unlock the charging connector.

From the Charging limit, Charging current, Scheduled charging, Immediately stop charging, Charging status and emergency unlock topics of the 2026 EV6 web manual, read October 28, 2026.

Charging an EV6 in cold weather

Michigan City winters matter for charging. The 2026 manual lists three features and limits to know:

  • Battery conditioning mode (if equipped) helps keep charging performance near room-temperature levels when the battery is hot or cold, such as in hot summers or cold winters. If you set a DC charging station as a destination or waypoint in the navigation, it conditions the battery for DC charging based on your arrival time. It can also be started remotely with a smartphone app while parked, and then ends when the battery reaches the right temperature or after 30 minutes. It uses battery energy, so it may reduce driving range.
  • The high voltage battery warming system (if equipped) runs automatically when the charging connector is connected, depending on battery temperature. The manual says it might not operate when the battery temperature drops below -31°F (-35°C).
  • To prevent high voltage battery degradation, DC charging might not be available during cold weather.

If the charging door is frozen shut, Kia says to tap lightly or remove the ice near the door, and not to force it open.

Kia's battery care advice

The 2026 manual includes these recommendations for the high voltage battery:

  • Use AC charging to keep the battery in optimal condition, and minimize DC charging to help prolong battery life.
  • Fully charge the battery whenever the charge level is below 20%, and fully charge it at least once a month.
  • If you will not use the vehicle for an extended period, charge the battery once every three months.
  • If the charge capacity or distance to empty drops suddenly or dramatically, contact an authorized Kia dealer for inspection.
